Mezzo-soprano Anna-Chiara Muff (Anna Nero), originally from Zug, Switzerland comes from a musical family and completed her master’s degree at the Lucerne School of Music. She is currently establishing herself on European opera and concert stages.
Her opera engagements to date include Eloisa (Bianca e Fernando, Donizetti) at Opera St. Moritz (2018), Tisbe (La Cenerentola, Rossini) at Schlossoper Hallwyl, Annina (La Traviata, Verdi) at the Luzerner Theater (2019), and Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus, Johann Strauss) at the Murten Classics (2020). In the upcoming season, she will make her debut as Grimgerde in Richard Wagner’s Die Walküre in a production by the Wagner Society of Switzerland.
Anna-Chiara Muff also performs regularly as a concert singer. Her repertoire includes Manuel de Falla’s El amor brujo—performed at the Tonhalle Zürich in 2021—Camille Saint-Saëns’ Oratorio de Noël, Donizetti’s Requiem, and works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Jan Dismas Zelenka with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra (2023). In 2024, she performed Antonín Dvořák’s Stabat Mater in Chur.
Beyond the classical opera repertoire, she explores the intersections of vocal performance, fashion, contemporary art, and architecture. She is particularly drawn to interdisciplinary projects and performances in museums and unconventional spaces that allow music to be experienced in new ways. A highlight of her career to date is her collaboration with performance artist Marina Abramović.
In addition, Anna-Chiara frequently performs national anthems at international sporting events. She also contributed to the album Tohuwabohu (Sony Music, 2022) by the Swiss rapper Luuk.
She is a prize-winner in several competitions and support programs, including the Elvira Lüthi-Wegmann Foundation’s sponsorship award and the Migros Competition. In 2019, she also received a scholarship from the Richard Wagner Society of Switzerland.
Today, the mezzo-soprano lives in Strasbourg and works internationally as an opera and concert singer.
